Best of October 2015

This one's a two-parter. First is American Horror Story: Hotel, which is only four episodes in but already AMAZING. I love AHS but I still acknowledge when it has its flaws (like all of season 2) and this season is fantastic. The characters are so interesting and the setting is super intriguingly creepy and I love the theme of people trying to figure out where to draw the line between what's evil and what's acceptable. If you haven't started it yet, it's still early on and you can catch it on FX.com.
Second is A Young Doctor's Notebook, which has two seasons up on Netflix. I hadn't heard much about it but it seemed like it could be good (Jon Hamm AND Daniel Radcliffe?) so I finally gave it a chance the other day... and watched four episodes in a row. They're only 22-minute episodes so a binge is totally justifiable! This show is a little gorier than I would like but it's also funny, which keeps surgery scenes from getting too hard to watch. I seriously recommend it.
The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan. I read this book when it first came out but didn't really pay it the attention it deserved because I was in school just reading it between homework assignments at the time. I've come back to it this month and it's really been what I've needed. Her short stories are tragic and haunting and uplifting and gorgeous and her essays are so heartfelt. It's amazing to think she was so young when she wrote it all.
Sylvan Esso. It's a guy and a girl and they do kind of synth-y music. They only have one album out (self-titled) but each song is different so it's a really strong debut. I mentioned them in my post about ACL (here) and seriously recommend them, especially the songs "Coffee," "Could I Be," and "Hey Mami." They're also great live; their equipment shorted out for a while at ACL and they danced and told jokes to fill the time. I'll definitely see them next time they're in town.
This chicken fajita pasta. I just made it today to have this weekend while I'm watching football and scary movies and I seriously love it! It takes a while to make - an hour and a half, since you have to do it in three separate parts - but it's so worth the time! It's creamy and just spicy enough and it tastes great. I added some spinach to mine just to get some more green in there but it's really bit an unhealthy recipe to begin with!
This blanket. How cute and soft-looking is that? Of course it's sold out but I'm going to place an order as soon as they get some more in. It would be great for just about any style of decor, from rustic to chic and modern, and looks especially good for fall decorating! I'm also coveting these highball glasses from Houzz for my bar cart. Perfect fall colors but so chic for any time of year!
This video. I've seen it about a hundred times and every time I still laugh just as hard a the guy filming! Forget Sexy Maid and Sexy Nurse, think how great this world would be if we all dressed in costumes like these for Halloween.
I'm seriously coveting this lipstick. I think it's a gorgeous color - I'd love to paint my walls the same shade! Also, how cute and fall-y is this combo from capedcodcollegiate? And of course you can't go wrong with camel look like this one from dailynewfashions.
Get outside in this beautiful fall weather and have a picnic, like this one featured on camillestyles. Does this not look so amazing? I can't think of anything better than getting cozy under some blankets outside with some soup, some candles, and some hot chocolate to keep you warm while you watch the leaves turn and laugh with good friends. I know what I'll be doing this weekend!
